Duplin County Schools proudly recognizes an outstanding group of high school seniors who have been awarded the Grow Your Own Scholarship-Loan, a unique opportunity that supports students on their journey to becoming future educators. These students have demonstrated a passion for teaching and a heart for service, earning up to $5,000 per year for four years as they pursue their college degrees in education.
More than just a scholarship, this program reflects each recipient’s commitment to give back to their community. Upon completing their degrees, these students will return to Duplin County Schools to serve as teachers for four years—helping to shape the future of the very classrooms where they once sat as students.
This year’s recipients are:
- Lilliana White, graduating from North Duplin Jr./Sr. High School will attend James Sprunt Community College to pursue a degree in education.
- Jerrick Kellum, graduating from James Kenan High School, will attend the University of North Carolina at Pembroke to pursue a degree in education.
- Jaqueline Juan-Catalan, graduating from Wallace-Rose Hill High School, will attend the East Carolina University to pursue a degree in education.
- Savannah Kennedy, graduating from East Duplin High School, will attend the University of Mt. Olive to pursue a degree in education.
- Emery Raynor, graduating from East Duplin High School, will attend North Carolina State University to pursue a degree in education.
“We are incredibly proud of these students for stepping up to lead the next generation,” said Superintendent Dr. Austin Obasohan. “Their decision to dedicate themselves to teaching and to return home to serve in Duplin County speaks volumes about their character and commitment to our school community.”
Duplin County Schools celebrates these future educators for their vision, leadership, and desire to make a difference. We look forward to welcoming them back as teachers and role models in the years to come.
